Reading First Technical Assistance Center (R-TAC), Regions IV & V
The Regional Technical Assistance Center (R-TAC) for the California Reading First Plan works to support Reading First Districts (LEA’s) in 11 counties in the Greater Bay Area. It is managed by, and located at, the Alameda County Office of Education.
Besides providing technical assistance, it monitors the implementation of the Reading First Sub Grant Assurances to whose adherence all participating districts have committed. The assurances’ purpose is to ensure that the children in Reading First classrooms receive optimal opportunities for learning to read and write so that by the end of third grade students are proficient readers in English.
The Reading First Plan requires schools to use state-adopted instructional materials with an option to use the Spanish version of the English program for children in waivered Spanish bilingual classrooms.
