Technology Master Plan
Technology is rapidly changing the way business is conducted throughout the world. Students of the future will not only need to know how to operate a computer, but how to use it to access information efficiently, execute their jobs effectively, perform personal day-to-day activities, and the ability to adapt to future technologies. The priority of education has become the ability to use technology and network accessibility to provide information for students, instructors, and administrators as well as data for more accurate and reliable decision-making. Through ACOENet (Alameda County Office of Education Network), the County Office of Education has designed the foundation to make these endeavors possible.
This technology plan represents efforts between the Alameda County Office of Education’s Information Technology department and Student Programs; Services.
Many of ACOE’s students have histories of negative school experiences: low achievement, poor performance on standardized assessments (they typically score in the lowest 20th percentile in reading and math), learning disabilities, English learners, and a lack of interest in higher education or career training. The median length of stay for students who attend ACOE’s schools ranges from 11 days at Buena Vista School (Juvenile Justice Center) to 69 days at Fruitvale Academy (Cal-SAFE program).
Given these considerations, the instructional materials, equipment, and strategies must meet the state standards, be engaging, and definitely must have real-world application in order to make an impact on our students and prepare them to meet today’s high academic standards.
The technology master plan for SPAS will help to assure that the instructional methods are congruent with the technology used through rigorous professional development and careful, creative, and insightful curricular design. In addition, consideration will be taken as to how, when, why, and where technology is implemented at school sites to ensure readiness on the part of administrators, teachers and students alike.
