Highlights of this year's service learning include a refrigerator magnet developed by Rock La Fleche students and distributed to students and parents at the East Bay Conservation Corps Charter Elementary School. This magnet features nutritious lunch items that parents and children can plan to include in healthy lunches.
Rock La Fleche students celebrated the end of a successful year in the Health and Nutrition Education Program by competing in an Iron Chef-style cook-off. Each week students selected a new vegetable - tomato, cucumber, squash and potato - and learned about its nutritional content, history and other uses. They prepared and tasted delicious and nutritious recipes and practiced their cooking skills and teamwork. Finally, at the end of the summer teams competed and prepared dishes that were rated by teachers on taste, appearance and creativity. It was all in good fun and good food!!!
