Student Programs & Services operates year-round alternative educational programs for a diverse student population throughout Alameda County. The Department provides educational services annually to 3,000 students ranging from birth to 19 years.
The schools we operate are:
Two court schools at the Juvenile Justice Center (Butler Academic Center and Camp Sweeney Education Center) |
Two community schools for high-risk students (Hayward Community School and Thunder Road) |
An after-school program for youth on probation or reintegrating into their community after incarceration |
An early intervention for infants and pre-schoolers with special needs |
Two Cal-SAFE schools for young parents (William P. Burke Academy and Fruitvale Academy) |
Every student is viewed as valuable and we are committed to providing students with the education necessary to enable them to meet their fullest potential. For the most part, the Department operates its programs under state compulsory school attendance mandates and federal special education laws.
