REGION 4 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
Fact Sheet

What is Region IV?
Region 4 is one of the eleven State Superintendent’s Regions. Region 4 serves the seven Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Mateo, San Francisco and Solano.

What is Region IV Technical Assistance?
Region IV Technical Assistance is located at the Alameda County Office of Education. It is funded by a grant from the California Department of Education to provide training and technical assistance to programs funded by the state After-School Education and Safety Program (ASES) and 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) within the seven Bay Area counties. Region IV Technical Assistance works with grantees both at the district and the site levels, and at every stage of program development-from planning to implementation, and ultimately to support sustainable programs. Alameda County Office of Education coordinates technical assistance services and resources that are available in Region IV in association with several other entities. It also leverages and provides training and services to districts, school sites, and practitioners.

What Types of Professional Development and Technical Assistance Is Provided?
We offer a wide variety of region-wide and district trainings on topics such as: school to community collaboration; After-School Program design and implementation; quality ASP standards; evaluation and assessment; grant writing resources; sustainability; diversity; parent involvement; and academic support to afterschool programs.
We provide technical assistance at the district level to enhance systems and to assist them in developing, improving, and sustaining their school-linked programs.
We provide assessment services to help districts and sites to identify programmatic strengths and areas for improvement relative to the exemplary practices for after-School.
We have a region-wide, coordinated delivery system to help support and improve programs site-by-site, and encourage peer-learning network. As part of this initiative, the Regional Technical Assistance Team conducts outreach to targeted sites through their district coordinator or After-School point person.
We link programs with other resources through information, communication, and referral systems. We publish an e-newsletter as part of our website and an Interactive discussion thread, affectionately called, “Tapped-In”, that seeks to highlight the perspectives and practices from the field, provides policy updates and information on existing resources, and presents meaningful tips and tools that can be applied to everyday practice.
