Exemplary Schools for Success

ACCESS Overview
-
Serving nearly 2,000 students at five high-need schools, the Alameda County Community Schools Consortium will establish a strong Community of Practice (CoP), led by the Alameda County Office of Education (ACOE)’s Social Emotional Learning department. Over the course of the grant, each site will bolster their existing community school efforts by establishing an interdisciplinary Community School Action Team that assesses site-specific needs and assets, and develops and implements a strategic plan aligned with the four pillars of community schools. The CoP will go further, creating an institutionalized space to share best practices and connect to resources, provide intensive and monthly professional development to all staff at all five sites, build capacity for parent and family leaders, and co-design a new “playbook” including toolkits, resources, asset maps, and learning modules that can help scale up the community schools model throughout the county. The five Alameda County Community Schools Design Principles will be integrated throughout the process: Culturally and community responsive, equity-centered, whole-child approach, collaborative, inclusive, and rooted in social justice.
