• Professional Development at ACOE

    UPDATED 09/13/2022 - The Alameda County Office of Education offers a variety of professional development opportunities for early learning educators,  TK-12 teachers, and administrators to expand their skills and increase effectiveness in the schools and districts they serve. We provide a broad range of training and coaching support for all educators, including on-site and online workshops, professional certification, and summer institutes.

    English Learner Leaders Network (ELLN)

    The English Learner Leaders’ Network (ELLN) is a collaborative for educators and key personnel responsible for English learner programs in Alameda County that focuses on support for English learner and multilingual programs, serves as a forum for sharing state and federal updates (including legislation, policies, compliance, conferences, and resources), and provides networking and professional learning opportunities.

    Play-Powered and Equitable Early Learning: Celebrating Alameda County’s Launch of Universal Transitional Kindergarten

    California Preschool Learning Foundations for Administrators

    Learn about the Preschool Foundations & Frameworks, including the powerful role of play, the integrated nature of learning, and the alignment of the Learning Foundations to the Common Core Standards. The goal of this session is to acquaint administrators who support a transitional kindergarten (TK) program better understand what learning looks like for early learners.

    Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC)

    Expository Reading & Writing Course (ERWC) is back with offerings for 12th grade ERWC teachers! The Alameda County Office of Education, which serves as Region IV’s ERWC Lead, is proud to be able to offer three Introductory Courses (for educators new to teaching ERWC) and three Update Courses (for educators who were previously certified in the 2.0 curriculum to acquire 3.0 certification).

    This series is designed for K-5 teachers interested in revitalizing their math instruction!

    The Mathematics Framework Series will support the forthcoming California State revision of the Mathematics Framework for 2022. The integrated program is intended for teacher leaders, school counselors, and principals (meeting jointly and separately).  We will have regular Community of Practice meetings throughout the county to connect, learn, and design around specific major shifts proposed in the CA Math Frameworks impacting the work of teachers, counselors and principals. The ongoing Series began with a pre-meeting on July 28.

    trauma informed healing  

    Trauma Informed Healing Through The Arts

    This series provides a practical guide for those who wish to support therapeutic art making in their art teaching practice. These four sessions offer key elements, approaches, and practical guidelines for therapeutic art education with students who have experienced adverse childhood experiences and trauma. Dr. McFarland will facilitate the in-person event and will co-lead the three virtual sessions with Dr. Kay. The strategies will provide teachers with confidence to support their students’ health and wholeness through art.
