Alameda County Welcomes New District Superintendents
One-third of Alameda County's K-12 school districts have new leadership for 2019-20
Five Alameda County school districts started the school year with new superintendents, and one district is welcoming back a former leader for a new tenure.
ACOE welcomes each new leader and looks forward to supporting all district and ROP superintendents in 2019-20 and beyond.
Alameda Unified School District
Superintendent Scuderi served most recently as Berkeley Unified School District’s Associate Superintendent. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Superintendent for BUSD’s Educational Services Department, Principal of Berkeley High School, Director of Personnel Services at BUSD, and the Vice Principal of Berkeley High School.
Albany Unified School District
Dr. Frank Wells
Dr. Wells served most recently as Executive Director of Human Resources at Gonzales Unified School District. Previously, he served as Assistant Superintendent with Santa Cruz Unified School District. He has experience as a teacher, principal, director, assistant superintendent, board member, and board president.
Berkeley Public Schools
Dr. Brent Stephens
Dr. Stephens served most recently as the Chief Academic Officer of San Francisco Unified School District. He has experience as a Board-certified Spanish bilingual teacher, union representative, Special Education paraprofessional, principal of secondary and elementary schools, and assistant superintendent.
Dublin Unified School District
Dr. Dave Marken
Dr. Marken previously worked in Dublin Unified School District for 13 years, serving as Assistant Principal and Principal at Dublin High School, the Senior Director of Secondary Education and Student Services, and Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services and Human Resources. Following his time in Dublin, Dr. Marken was Superintendent for Newark Unified School District, and retired after serving for five years.
New Haven Unified School District
Dr. John Thompson
Dr. Thompson most recently worked for San Leandro Unified, where he served for nine years as Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Services. Before joining San Leandro Unified, Dr. Thompson served in a variety of leadership roles for South San Francisco Unified School District.
San Lorenzo Unified School District
Dr. Daryl Camp
Dr. Camp served most recently as Superintendent of Riverbank Unified School District, a position he held since 2012. He is currently a member of the Association of California School Administrators State Board and serves as President-Elect of the California Association of African American School Administrators.
