Enrollment Process
Admission
ACOE Opportunity Academy desires to admit any eligible student without regard to nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, disability, perceived disability, or any other characteristics. All eligible students will be admitted, subject to space availability, and enrollment will be ongoing, rather than limited to the traditional beginning of the school year.
Admission Process
- Step 1: Interested students will attend a private orientation with their instructor and parent or guardian, if applicable. Students will get a brief description of the school program and how it differs from other school options. They will be provided a description of ACOE Opportunity Academy's curriculum, enrichment programs, attendance expectations, grading, evaluation procedures and graduation standards.
- Step 2: If a student chooses to enroll in ACOE Opportunity Academy, the instructor assigned to the student, or the school secretary, will schedule a registration appointment. The student should bring to this appointment a copy of his/her last school transcript, his/her IEP or 504 Plan, if applicable, and a completed application form. If under 18, the student must also be accompanied by his/her parent/guardian and bring a copy of his/her immunization records.
Lottery
If the number of eligible students who wish to attend ACOE Opportunity Academy exceeds the school’s capacity, attendance will be determined by lottery. If a lottery is necessary due to space limitations, it will be held within two weeks of the determination. Once the lottery is completed, all students not admitted shall be placed on a waiting list, which will remain active for the balance of the academic year. Should a vacancy occurs during the academic year, students on the waiting list will be offered admission in the order in which their names were drawn in the lottery.

California Education Code Section 32286 requires each school site to review and update its school safety plan, which must be developed and written by a School Site Council (SSC) or its designated Safety Planning Committee in collaboration with teachers, classified staff, parents, and first responders to ensure they are up-to-date and complete. The plans must have policies and procedures addressing critical issues including: disaster preparedness; crisis response; mental and physical health; earthquake emergencies; school learning environment; discipline, suspension, and/or expulsion; hate crime reporting; child abuse reporting; release of a pesticide or toxic substance; and more. Schools are required to review, update, and approve its plan by March 1, every year and seek the approval of their Educational boards annually.
In the below folder you will find all the Comprehensive School Safety Plans, including Opportunity Academy.

State law requires all public schools receiving state funding to prepare and distribute a School Accountability Report Card (SARC.) The purpose of the report card is to provide parents and the community with important information about each public school.
A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators, including demographics, school safety plan, school program and learning environment, facilities, test results, teacher and staff information, curriculum and instruction, and fiscal and expenditure data.
2020-21 and 2021-22 SARC Notice: California Department of Education data provided for “Teacher Preparation and Placement “ do not accurately reflect teacher totals for both District Number District Percent in our Court, Community, and Opportunity Academy schools. We are working with the CDE to make the corrections to these fields.
